Welcome to the web site of the Union Internationale des Œnologues, the federation that brings together and represents the professional associations of winemaking professionals throughout the world or, to be more precise, more than 20,000 people working in 12,000 companies. The Union Internationale desŒnologues (UIŒ) was founded in Milan on 24th April 1965 and is based at the headquarters of Organisation Internationale de la Vigne ed du Vin (OIV) in Paris.
35% of winemakers throughout the world work in companies in which they have decision making and management responsibilities. 10% are freelance and the remainder play a variety of roles within their companies.
The biggest concentration of winemakers is within the European Union, which accounts for more than 70% of the world total.
This site is divided into seven parts, as shown in the subject bar. Each part is further divided into subsections, as set out in the vertical column of each page. Segment eight, the Reserved Area, is reserved for the management of the U.I.Œ., and is therefore accessible only to the national associations.
The web site has only two role players, the winemakers and the national associations, which are the points of reference for the category in each country. For more specific information on the single national associations, simply click on the logo of the association or the name of the country to go to the site required directly. The part in question is set out in the "UIΠin the World" bar. If the site of the association which interests you is in the process of being completed the words "under preparation" will appear. If the association has no web site, you may contact it by clicking on the "Contacts" bar, which will provide you with the reference details for each national association.
