Bund Deutscher Önologen e.v.
The objective of the BDO is to represent the graduates who have completed a course at the upper technical institute or similar school of winemaking and beverage technology. As this university course was available in the Federal Republic only at the Geisenheim higher technical institute, it was natural for BDO to select this town as its head office location. The BDO aims to encourage its members and future professionals in their careers, and to do so it works with the organisations operating in every area of the winemaking and beverage sector. Since 1955, it has formed part of the Deutscher Weinbauverband, the German winemaking association.
The BDO international conferences which take place each year have been organised exclusively in Geisenheim since 1951. They take place over a period of two days, during which international experts describe the latest results obtained in national and international research in the growing, winemaking and beverage technology sectors.
The BDO publishes the monthly magazine Der Oenologe and the specialist review Der Deutsche Weinbau.
